Meet Adrienne
Cosmetology school was a complete accident. After completing one year in a general marketing program, I knew that wasn’t for me. Cosmetology seemed like a fun and relatively quick program so I enrolled. My thought was, “I’ll do hair until I figure out what I really want to do.” That was 25 years ago.
A Dart on the Map
I started my career in Galesville, WI in 2001 and then moved on to Sue Kolve’s salon in Onalaska. After a few years there I decided to throw a dart at a map and moved to Colorado. I lived and worked in downtown Denver, and that’s when I started with Pureology. As an educator and platform artist, I was doing hair for hair shows along with keeping my job in the salon.
Being a “hairapist” rings true in every sense.
During that time I had gotten married, helped raise two step children, had two kids of our own, and completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a focus in sustainability management. I ended up working as an aspiring stock broker for Charles Schwab, and quickly realized that WAS NOT IT.
After this experience, I decided I loved being behind the chair and connecting with people on a more personal level. Being a “hairapist” rings true in every sense. I love hearing everyone’s life story, their experiences, and in return I gain infinite wisdom from different points of view. People share with me their highest highs and lowest lows, and I’m here for it all!
Teaching the Craft
In Denver, we built a single chair salon in our home and it was a huge success, but I missed the camaraderie and interacting with other hair professionals and that led me to become an educator with Bellami Professional. Hair extensions had always been something I wanted to master and I truly love teaching other artists.

Then: A Total-Life Pivot
My husband and I are both from Wisconsin and were ready to move out of the city (Denver); we needed another adventure! So, I am back in the mountains of the Mississippi and we’re raising our two youngest kids here in La Crosse. Four short years after returning to the Coulee Region I decided to jump on the opportunity to open State Street Salon and Spa. It is scary starting/owning/operating a business, but like with most things in life, I’ve learned there’s never a “perfect time” to take a major leap.
Four years ago I would have never thought I would own a salon in La Crosse, WI, but here I am, hustling every day and loving it. I feel so fortunate to use my experience as a stylist, chair renter, student, coach and educator to help professionals become as successful as they can possibly be.
The Vision for State Street
My vision for State Street Salon and Spa is to create a space where like-minded business professionals, hair stylists, estheticians, nail techs, and massage therapists come together for a unique beauty and wellness experience for La Crosse and surrounding areas. Right now, our service providers have a combined 55 years experience and we continue to evolve our expert service knowledge to provide a memorable experience. I invite YOU, appointment or not, to come see our space. It is something out of a major metro area, and it’s more than a visit, it’s an experience!
